Lady Gaga with Semi Precious Weapons

Last night Lady Gaga twatted a picture on her Twitter of her and, the band, Semi Precious Weapons at Bukowski’s in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Lady Gaga is taking her Monster Ball Tour to the TD Garden in Boston on July 1st and July 2nd. Semi Precious Weapons is a band that became the opening act for Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour after Kanye West pulled out (due to his Taylor Swift incident at the 2009 MTV Music Awards) and Kid Cudi got kicked off the tour after he punched a fan.

I was fortunate enough to attend the Monster Ball on December 31st, 2009 and even though Semi Precious Weapons is in different musical genres than Kanye and Kid Cudi, I enjoyed their music. I would classify them as a pop/punk rock band. SPW met the Lady in NYC and knew her before she was THE Lady Gaga. They also make a cameo in Gaga’s “Telephone” music video.

Here are some pictures from when I went to the Monster Ball. I was only three rows away from the stage!

Dancing in the Dark

Bad Romance

The Monster Ball concert was a perfect end to my 2009. Lady Gaga performed all the songs that she had on her albums at the time and it was an electrifying experience. I can’ t wait to see her again at the Monster Ball in 2011.

My friend showing off her stylish vintage outfit

Today one of my friends and I began the footwork for our vintage online business. Vintage clothes are items that are from an era of the past such as the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s etc.  Vintage shopping is when you go to a store that has already found vintage items and thrifting is when you go to a thrift store (Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc) and search for vintage items or cheap stuff in general. Of course, the thrift store items are cheaper than the vintage store. Vintage clothes are popular because they are unique and are usually one of a kind pieces. So, fashionistas love vintage clothes.

First, we went vintage shopping at Jezebel which is a vintage boutique in Fort Lauderdale. There were a lot of great finds there but the brightly colored dresses from the 60’s really caught my eye. I was drawn to this 60’s dress almost as soon as we entered the store and I ended up buying it.

It looks super cute on

I also got these cool cat-eye glasses to pair with the dress.

I also found this 80’s dress that I wanted to get but it didn’t fit me.

Sixteen Candles

I was quite happy with my purchases and I also picked out a dress for my friend, which looked great on her, and she ended up buying.

After that we headed down to Miami to go thrifting. Luckily, we found a lot of vintage items there and we got a great deal on everything. The prices were super super cheap. I even found a dress for myself that I only paid $3 for!

I love a deal!

We really loaded up at that thrift store and we will be going back this week. Here is a sample of the items that we purchased.

Lastly, we headed to C.Madeleine’s which is the pinnacle/ holy grail of vintage stores.

They had a large selection of designer vintage clothes from the 50’s to the 80’s. A lot of the items you could picture movie stars of their time wearing. Their pieces are quite expensive; $100 was the cheapest price that I saw. But I will say that their clothes are well worth it. My friend found a classic black Audrey Hepburn dress that she fell in love with that she didn’t buy but I have a feeling that she will go back to buy it.

I think that our vintage and thrifting day was a huge success. I bought a couple of items and we bought a lot of items for our store. We hope to shoot the items this week and get them online. When we open our online store I will post the link here.

Lemon + Water

Perfect Match

I must admit that I really do not like to drink water. I know it is vital to keep you hydrated and to keep you functioning properly but I have never liked the bland taste of water. However, I have always liked the taste of water with lemon. One day, I decided to do some research to find out the benefits, if any, of water and lemon and it turns out that there are tons.

  1. Lemon water assists in the removal of toxins from your body. Thus, your skin will look better and your digestion will improve
  2. Lemon water helps to improve your immune system
  3. Lemon water is a diuretic
  4. Lemon water relieves heartburn
  5. Lemon water helps you lose weight

More information can be found here

and here

Making lemon water is fairly simple. You need water and a lemon, of course, and a container/glass/bottle etc. to put the water in. I find the lemon easier to squeeze when it is cut up into slices. How many slices depends on the width of the slice, how “lemony” you want the water to taste and the size of the container you are using. I use a water bottle so I cut up about 2-3 slices.

Then I squeeze the lemon juice into the bottle/glass/container etc.

I taste the water as I go along until I have my desired taste and then voila; you have lemon water.

A few tips:

  • the lemon should be at room temperature so you can extract the most juice from it
  • don’t microwave the lemon because this can destroy a lot of the lemon’s nutrients

Happy Wife, Happy Life

Me pushing Teresa's book

A couple of days ago my friend, who is obsessed with reality television even more than me, informed me that Teresa Giudice (Real Housewives of NJ) would be at Books and Books on Lincoln Road, signing copies of her cook book, Skinny Italian.  I must admit that out of all the RHONJ housewives Danielle is my favorite because she is bat shit crazy! Nonetheless, I decided to accompany my friend to the book signing as a supportive friend and to catch a glimpse of the table flipping, prostitute-whore screaming Goddess that is Teresa Giudice.

The book signing was at 5:00 pm and we arrived at Books and Books at 4:00 pm expecting a moderate turnout.

When we got there the line was fairly short. Here’s a pic of the loyal fans who were in the front of the line.

We decided not to wait in line and set up shop in a chair that was right by where Teresa would be signing books; we had the best seat in the house. True to her nature, of always being late, she arrived at her book signing at 5:30 pm and when she did all the guidos, guidettes and gays went crazy!

We love Joe (Teresa's husband)

My friend who is a native New Jerseyer and Teresa SuperFan was in awe of the Italian princess.

Teresa is amazing

Per my friend’s request, we stayed at the book signing the whole hour and a half that Teresa was there. Finally at 7:00 pm it was our turn!

You can tell who the SuperFan is

My friend got to talk to Teresa for a whole 2 minutes and she told her how much she loved her, how she is from NJ and how she pre-ordered her book. Unfortunately, my friend didn’t have the book with her and Teresa in her Jersey accent asked, “Do you want me to sign sumthin?”. Luckily we had a blank piece of paper so we got her to sign that and we were on our way.

My life is complete

I must say that Teresa is much prettier in person and she was a TOTAL sweetheart. My friend has her book and she says that the recipes are really easy to follow and are actually good. Also, she was wearing a really nice pair of Louboutins and a million carat bracelet. So, she definitely did not look like she was going through bankruptcy… or maybe that is how she got there.

Ballin’ On A Budget

As young Americans we all know how serious this recession is. The unemployment rate for 20-24 year olds is 15% whereas the rest of the population is 9.7%. But even amidst a recession we all want to “keep up with the Jones’ ”. As an unemployed grad student here are some ways that I save money.

  1. Get Your Rachel Ray On: Learning how to cook and cooking your own meals, instead of eating out, saves you money and is usually a healthier alternative. I have learned many recipes by watching cooking shows and using Google. Also, once you have perfected your skills you and your friends can take turns cooking for one another which will save you money, relieve you from having to cook every night and offer you a free way to spend time with your friends.
  2. Go Green: Not only is “going green” trendy but it also saves money. Energy efficient light bulbs are expensive upfront but you will definitely see a return on your investment within a few months, when your light bill is substantially cheaper. Also, if you are within walking distance of a lot of places, walk instead of drive. This will reduce wear and tear on your car, keep you from having to get gas frequently and it is also good exercise, so you can forgo a gym membership.
  3. Never Pay Full Price:  I cannot remember the last time I paid full price for anything. I always keep an eye out for sales at my local mall and outlet malls are a girl’s best friend because they have great deals. I know the Coach store at the outlet mall in my area has 20% off sales every weekend, which is unbeatable. Moreover, if you are a fan of produce and have a flea market in your area that sells fruits and vegetables then this is the best place to get these items. The produce is about half the price of the supermarket and higher quality. Lastly, I recently took a day trip to the Bahamas for $35 because it was my birthday month. Research cruise lines or travel sites in your area to see if they offer any similar special deals.

These are just a few ways that I “ball on a budget”.  Understandably, when I first lost my job I was stressed out over my financial situation. But being unemployed has taught me how to stretch a dollar and I have learned habits that I will implement for the rest of my life. You don’t have to be struggling financially to “ball on a budget” because every dollar you save today can help you reach future goals.

I Want It All

I am officially on the blog scene. I decided to start blogging so I would have a forum for my thoughts and to document my progress as I change my life. I am graduating from grad school in December and I know where I want to be but I’m not exactly sure how to get there. However, after being laid off last year I do know that I want to be an entrepreneur. This may be taboo to say but I really loved being laid off. Obviously, not having as much money as I did when I was working is a drawback but besides that I loved not having to go work for someone everyday. Seeing as I am graduating soon, there are a lot of things that I want to change within a year and I have created a vision board to assist me. You will see that I am a big believer in manifestation, visualization, positive thinking and things of that matter. But I will blog about that later.
